Living Strong: Who I Wrote This Book For — And Why

The Freedom to Speak, Write, and Reflect

Yesterday, we celebrated the 4th of July — our national day of independence.

And today, I’m sitting in quiet gratitude.
Grateful for the freedom I have as an American citizen to speak truth, tell my story, and share what I’ve learned — through the written and spoken word.

That freedom is sacred. And I don’t take it lightly.
It’s the reason this book exists.

📘 So, who did I write Living Strong: The Power of Defining Moments for?

I’ve asked myself that a lot.

The answer is simple:

I wrote it for someone like me.
Someone who’s 64 years old, who’s made great choices and terrible ones.
Someone who’s lived a lot of life and wants to make sense of it all — not to glorify the past, but to give something meaningful to the future.

I wrote it for someone who’s not done yet.

🗺 A Defining Conversation

Many years ago, while in training to become a minister, a mentor asked me to create a life graph — a visual timeline of my ups and downs.

When I finished it, they asked,
“May I ask about one of these moments?”
I nodded.

Without hesitation, they pointed to the place on that timeline where I marked the death of my son, PJ.

The conversation that followed changed my life.

It taught me that pain — real, unspeakable pain — can be a teacher.
That loss doesn’t just take from us — it also gives us perspective.

And that some of our deepest moments of grief can become defining moments of growth.

That conversation became one of my defining moments.

And this book? It was born from a lifetime of them.

✍️ The Book Is Short — But It’s Real

This book is only 80 pages long.
I kept it short on purpose.

Because I’m a Bronx New Yorker.
I don’t waste words. I don’t chase hype. I speak plain.

This is not a self-help manual.
It’s a reflection. A collection of hard-won lessons.
It’s my voice saying to you —

“Here’s what I’ve learned. Take what’s useful. Leave the rest.”

🎯 Who Will This Speak To?

If you’ve ever asked:

  • “What do I do with everything I’ve been through?”
  • “Is it too late to start again?”
  • “How can I live strong with what I’ve got now?”

Then Living Strong is for you.

It’s for people who’ve lived enough life to know what matters… and still have the fire to do something with it.

It’s for men and women who want to reflect, refocus, and rise.
