#WorkingActor – Building My Character for Feature Film, NoXcape

All the character research I’m doing these days is about corrupt police officers.

In the upcoming film, NoXcape (Loutrix Films), a martial arts action feature film about two-troubled sister’s C-lo and Elena in the hood, I portray the antagonist, a corrupt detective, Pedro Martinez.

Pedro Martinez is a New York City undercover cop who targets drug dealers, and is as crooked as they come; taking them down with his own unique brand of brutal street justice. Martinez, who loves fighting in unsanctioned MMA fights loves the power that comes with the badge and a gun, and shows that he will do anything to get his way, even murder.

Guns-Money-DrugsBecause the movie takes place over 6 years, with my character being the catalyst for the journey that the principle characters take over the course of the film, I wanted to do research on my character.

I mostly wanted to ask the question, Why did ‘Pedro’ become a corrupt police officer? What is his motivation for doing what he does?

My research has me reading articles, books and watching documentaries and other films about corrupt cops.

When I read something from a corrupt cop who said that he was attracted to the excitement of crime. He also wanted to make lieutenant and had to accept that promotions were based on politics, connections, and a willingness to secretly allow or be involved in wrongdoing if he was going to get ahead.

Right now I have a great connection with who Pedro Martinez is and I can’t wait to portray him in NoXcape.

Stay tuned…
