REMINDERS For Your Child’s Safety

Personal safety isn’t something you can bring up just once to your child. It needs to be part of an ongoing regular conversation. Start when your children are very young. Keep them relevant to their age and allow the discussions to evolve as they get older.

Self-Defense | Parents Here are Nine Safety Reminders for Your Child

1. Teach it early, say it often and be very clearly.
   Teach the Three A’s of safety:
   AWARENESS (EYES & EARS OPEN). ASSESSMENT (THINK). ACTION (RUN).

2. Talk about uncomfortable feelings.

3. Talk about “tricky people.”

4. Be specific.

5. Role-play different scenarios.

6. Make him the “boss” of his body.

7. Give simple steps for scary situations.

8. Discuss online stranger safety.

9. Keep the personal safety conversations ongoing.
