In 2009 one of my mentors encouraged me to learn how to tell stories with video. When you start producing videos, know that you are going to suck. But after you’ve done 1000-plus videos, you won’t suck as much! So, give yourself permission to suck.
To date, I’ve created a total of one thousand seven hundred and eighty six videos!
988 on my Youtube Channel, 524 on my Vimeo Channel and 274 on my private online media storage EasyVideoSuite for a total of 1786 videos! And this does not include my videos created specifically for Facebook and Instagram.
Whether you are an actor, dancer, filmmaker, musician, songwriter, performing artist…whatever, if you want to create, create! And as you create, give yourself the permission to suck.
As I get ready to do my first short film to be submitted for festivals next year, I am reminded of his wise words, “You’re going to suck!” But, like my journey with video production, I will start with this one and will look forward to looking back at it after doing 1000 short films!
He also told me that if I want to make films, MAKE THEM!
So…LIGHTS. CAMERAS. ACTION.
My mentor was right! I definitely don’t suck as much as I did when I first started!!
