Living Strong in the Present: Embracing Today Without Rushing Tomorrow

In today’s reflection, I want to share a powerful idea with you: living strong in the present. It’s about recognizing the importance of today, not constantly chasing tomorrow or the next milestone, but embracing the moment for what it truly offers. I’ve spent the last couple of weeks talking about patience and progress—whether through my recovery, my journey back to the mats, or just navigating life.

One thing I’ve learned, especially after my first hip replacement surgery and preparing for the second, is that it’s all about trusting the process. There are moments when I feel so good that I want to fast-track everything—like getting the next surgery done or jumping right back into my martial arts training. But there’s a wisdom in letting today be what it is and not forcing tomorrow to come too soon.

I’ve spoken about patience, and that’s because I’ve seen firsthand how crucial it is. Trusting the process isn’t just about being patient when results are slow—it’s about being patient when things are going great too. My surgeon reminded me of this just a few days ago. He told me to embrace the full six weeks of healing for my first hip before rushing into the next surgery, even though I feel like I could go right back into it now.

As I reflect on this, I want to encourage you, too, to think about where you’re at right now. Are you living in the moment? Are you appreciating today’s progress, even if it seems small? These small steps are what build a strong and empowered future. The power of tomorrow lies in our ability to live in the present.

So, today, let’s commit to honoring the process. Let’s not rush ahead, but instead, let’s trust that everything is unfolding as it should. The future will come when it’s ready. Today is here, and that’s all that matters.

As I continue my recovery, my eyes are set on my goals: getting back on the mats in January 2025 for my martial arts journey. I’m excited for my 7th-degree black belt training in Tang Soo Do, working on my American Kenpo, and earning my brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. But for now, I’m living in today. I’m embracing the journey—one step at a time.

I encourage you to take a moment and reflect: How are you living today? Are you present-focused? Let me know in the comments or join me in my community at peterliciaga.com. Let’s keep living strong, one day at a time. And for those who prefer listening, check out the audio version of this reflection with my Epic Living Strong Warriors playlist on YouTube. Let’s live strong together.
