Communicating Under Pressure (CUP) Cards In Action

Hi everyone, Peter Liciaga here. Many of you may already know that one of the jobs I have is I am a master instructor/trainer for self-defense, conflict resolution and Verbal Defense & Influence.

The reason I am writing this post is that I would like to share an experience that I recently had.

I am a part of a group on a social network that shares news and updates for an activity that one of my kids participate in. It’s a great group that not only shares news and updates but also pictures from the kids’ events

The other day, after an event, one of the group members decided to voice their feelings of upset in the group. In response, several other members made comments. It really seemed that group members simply wanted to vent. Though I believe that this social networking group was not created for this purpose, I do understand and respect everyone’s right to express themselves.

Although the conversation in the group did not interest me, I did find myself reflecting on the tactics and techniques I teach for conflict resolution and communicating under pressure.

It was amazing how the conversations were focused on conflicts in various situations within the groups common environment. I decided to create a short video (4-minutes) sharing the tactics I teach for communicating under pressure. (see video below)

I also shared a graphic in the video called Communicating Under Pressure (C.U.P.) based on a postcard that I hand out when I do presentations.

CUP-Card-New-Oct-2014

The front of the C.U.P. cards displays graphically the ten components of the Verbal Defense & Influence training program that are listed below:

1. Be Alert & Decisive / Respond, Don’t React
2. Five Maxims
3. Showtime Mindset
4. Universal Greeting
5. Beyond Active Listening
6. Redirection
7. Persuasion Sequence
8. When Words Alone Fail
9. Bystander Mobilization
10. Review & Report

The back of the card contains the Five Maxims, the Universal Greeting, and Beyond Active Listening tactics.

Please take the time to learn and then share the skills with your friends and family. It will lead to a less conflicted world. Best wishes on your efforts to Communicate Under Pressure.
