“Bullies and their targets aren’t the only ones involved in bullying,” said an education activist during a live presentation at a school in Hamilton, NJ.
Peter Liciaga, an education activist and martial arts master teacher in Mount Laurel, said besides bullies and their targets, bystanders, whom he termed “others,” are aware of the bullying behavior but don’t act to prevent it.
Liciaga gave a presentation about the different kinds of bullying and techniques kids can use to counter it. He spoke about four important considerations during his “Keep It R.E.A.L.,” event Tuesday night hosted by Saint Raphael School in Hamilton, NJ.
Respect, Educate, Assist and Lead!
Liciaga said parental behavior serves as a model and has a huge impact on children’s behavior in school. Parents who get angry or yell in front of their children often create negative, lasting impressions.
“(Kids) see their parents do this and they assume this behavior must be acceptable,” Liciaga said. “We must first and foremost, demonstrate respect.
Liciaga said parents should expect their children to be involved in bullying at some point, whether as bullies, targets, bystanders or some combination of the three.
Peter Liciaga is doing live presentations teaching kids and “others” about how to “Keep it REAL” when it comes to bullying.
