Bullying Does Hot Happen In A Vacuum!

If bullying is prevalent in your school, it is because the majority of students, parents, teachers and administrators allow it to happen!

For example, if a school that has 500 members in it’s body, let’s say there are about 10 kids who are the primary bullies and another 10 kids who are the primary victims – the kids who get picked on most aggressively and most often. This leaves us with 480 “observers” or bystanders in the middle.  It is my belief that these observers are the key to success, or failure, in the fight against bullying.

If the bystanders accept the bullies’ behaviors and sit on the sidelines, they give the bullies the audience they’re yearning for, then the bullying will continue. But if all 480 observers are convinced that bullying is not only wrong but are willing to stand up against it and that no one deserves to be victimized; and, that bullies should be held accountable for their actions, then the bullying in school will diminish remarkably.

Peter Liciaga - Your Education Activist - EDU ACTIVIST

In the end, it’s quite simple; ten persistent bullies might be able to control and torment a handful of victims, but against 480 united students, they don’t stand a chance.

As an education activist I would like to partner up with students, parents, teachers and administrators to empower the bystanders to unite against bullying. Let us unite and prepare for battle with a purpose, determination and conviction by:

  1. First and foremost, demonstrating RESPECT & COMPASSION, regardless ANYONE’s differences
  2. EDUCATION – starting with ourselves (the parents, educators and administration), then our children (the bullied, the bully AND the Observers/Audience!)
  3. ASSIST those that are being “bullied”! Learn (YES, LEARN!) the skills of Mental, Verbal and Physical protection to STAND UP for those who cannot, yet, stand up for themselves.
  4. Lastly, LEAD! Lead the way in the battle against bullying. Our communities need more educated, well-informed and courageous parents and educators to lead our children in RESPECT & COMPASSION, EDUCATION (and implementation), ASSISTING and LEADING!

The beginning of REAL change must come first from those that are, by default, in positions of authority. Then we will see change in our children’s schools and playgrounds.

My part? I will offer to conduct a 60-minute presentation called, “Power Talk,” in which I teach children what it means to keep it R.E.A.L.!

R – Respect everyone, regardless of their differences. (Empathy, Compassion & Kindness)
E – Education: The bullied about their rights and the bullies about their wrongdoings.
A – Assist the victims, regardless of who they are. Let them know that they are NOT alone! We are ALL in this together.
L – Lead the way in the fight against bullying. WE ALL MUST COMMIT TO TAKING A STAND AGAINST BULLYING!
