THE JOURNEY OF A THOUSAND MILES BEGINS WITH ONE STEP

The thoughts that follow are inspired by Mr. Colan Magill, my life experience… and the words of Lao Tzu, who said,

“The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step.”

This is true not only for a long journey, but also for a short one. My thoughts here are not referring to actual journeys or trips, but to vision, aspirations, goals, tasks and actions. I am referring to everything that requires that you take that first step.

Even a simple action of drinking water from the tap requires that you walk to the kitchen, open the tap, and fill the glass with water. If taking the first step is essential for such a simple act of filling a glass of water, it is of vital importance to achieving any goal.

If you wait for things to happen, probably, nothing would happen. You have to take the initiative and act. You need to take the first step, and then the next step, and then the next….

Waiting, and doing nothing, does not create success, and does not further your mission to achieve your goals, tasks or chores. You must act. You must move toward your goal and not wait for the right time, the right circumstances or the right mood. You must be disciplined. You must be black belt strong.

Often, laziness and inner resistance prevents you from taking the first step. Once you take that first step in the direction of your goal, the second step would follow. However, you HAVE to take that first one. … and then the next … and the next … and the next.

You need to start carrying out what you want or need to do, whether it’s getting up in the morning, washing your clothes, going to the gym, going shopping, learning a new skill sets, going to school, finding a new job, starting a new project. The first step is always important.

Once you make that first step, you follow it with the second, the third, fourth, fifth…. and before you know it you’ve started a momentum … you’ve gain confidence; your motivation to succeed will grow. It would then be easier to overcome laziness and inner resistance.

Yes, it’s pleasant to daydream and wish, but to make your daydreams and wishes come true you MUST get up and take the first step and move in that direction. You have to take action.

You have to take the first step, and then the second, the third, and all the steps that separate you from your vision and your goal. This is truth is for every goal, big or small, whether it’s related to your profession, health, fitness, self improvement or emotional empowerment.

Remember the words of Lao Tzu, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”, so act accordingly.

Also, remember that not only a long journey begins with one step, the first step, but also the short ones.

So get up, get out, be black belt strong and take that first step.

Have an amazing day.
