Functional Exercises for Self-Defense

Functional Exercises for Self-Defense (video) – Here are some ideas and suggestions for exercises that will not only get you and keep you fit for life, but will also prepare you to defend yourself if ever the need arrives.

CONSIDER THIS: The Importance of Staying Fit For Self-Defense

In preparation for upcoming self-defense workshops, I was doing research on online to see what is being taught these days in self-defense that is relevant to today’s current challenges, and I was taken back by the number of “experts” in the videos who suffer from obesity. I hate to generalize or judge but I couldn’t help but consider for a moment the role of physical fitness in this world of self defense.

Life is a constant push and pull challenge between work, family, health, passion, and the endless list of other things that are probably important for us to consider. As much as any of us try to have and do it all, we always fail somewhere. But, physical health and fitness must be top priority for anyone considering preparedness and self defense.

Physical strength and Aerobic health WILL help you run for safety or stand your ground and defend yourself if you believe it is appropriate. Physical strength and Aerobic health WILL help you retreat if and where it is possible and appropriate. Physical strength and Aerobic health WILL help you withstand the chemical and physiological response associated with fear of your life. Physical strength and Aerobic health WILL help you recover from injuries should you incur any.

Physical strength and Aerobic health is a “must” for any self-defense plan. You must have the ability to move to the right and appropriate action. If you are aware of a potentially dangerous situation and have assessed the appropriate action, you MUST move to that action as fast as possible. However, if you are not exercising daily strength and aerobic training and keeping your body in check, you cannot ensure that you will have the wherewithal to move to safety or physically defend yourself if you find it necessary.

In this video I give some suggestions for functional self-defense exercises that will help keep you fit and prepared to defend yourself if ever the need arrives.

What are your thoughts around physical health and self defense? How do you balance this?

Until next time, have a great day. :)
