Rehearsal Visualization

How Rehearsal Visualization Works (aka Mental Rehearsal)

Hi everyone, Peter Liciaga here and I just got back from Dinoto Karate Center in Mount Laurel NJ. Master Dinoto and I got together to review all the curriculum for the upcoming week. But what I want to do is share with you guys this month’s conversation on vision and to share this technique I call “Rehearsal Visualization.”

For example, if you are interested in doing a new martial arts form/hyung (sequence) you want to visualize yourself doing it in your mind. Make it as real for you as possible.

The first step is to get what we call a baseline. The baseline could be a video of someone else doing the form perfectly (example: Beginner Form from Peter Liciaga).

Next, watch the video and study it so that you can visualize it in your mind.

Then replace the head of the person doing it in your mind with your own head (yes! you can do this in your mind!)

Once you’ve replace their head with yours, now you can visualize yourself doing it perfectly and at a high level.

Continue to visualize yourself doing it. Rehearsing it over and over in your mind. Then go and practice it live in front of a mirror. You can even video record you doing it. Keep doing this until you are performing the sequence perfectly.

So that’s my tip for you guys who want to take your training to a higher level.

Until next time, have a great day and I’ll see you guys on the mat.
