Parenting in a Social Media World and What I Would Teach at a PTO Event => I know some parents and teachers will get upset with me about this because they may feel I’m propagating a medium that’s distracting their kids and dulling their brains.
Many of you that follow me regularly on the social networks like Facebook, Instagram, Linkedin, Twitter and Snapchat, know that I have absolutely NO PROBLEM using computers and mobile devices AND sharing my life on the internet. At any given time, if you were to come to my home and visit us on a surprise, you’d see that the Liciaga family would be totally engaged in their devices. My wife on her laptop, cell phone or ipod. My daughter on her smart phone. My son on his tablet. And yours truly on my laptop, smart phone and tablet. Yes, we are definitely a tech family. Judge away if you want…
I have absolutely no problem with the tech world that we live in. As a matter of fact I love it.
I believe that it has never been a better time to be alive and to be a parent. All this tech and social networking tools allow us to connect and build deep lasting relationships with friends and families around the world in ways like never before. And yes, even our own children will benefit from this. Fearing tech and limiting our children’s time on it is not preparing them to live in the world we live today and the future.
I recommend parents to stop playing defense and start playing offense and get excited about all the opportunities and new discoveries coming to the new generation.
Prepare your children to live in their TODAY and their TOMORROW. Don’t teach them how to live like it’s yesterday.
And that’s all I have to say about that…. for now…
I definitely have a lot more to say about this especially when it comes to safety, awareness and self-defense. But, like I said…this will all for now…
Oh, BTW, I’m a 6th degree master martial arts teacher with 47 years experience in self-defense AND everyone in my family is a black belt!
If you and your family don’t have a black belt…ahh…run down to the corner karate store, sign up, get disciplined, train hard and earn your black belt.
