One World Martial Arts Dojo · Family
Support your child’s martial arts journey.
Learn together. Grow together. Live strong.
Your patience, encouragement, and example can help your child carry the lessons of martial arts into everyday life.
Whether you are a parent, grandparent, or caregiver, you have a meaningful place in this adventure. You can learn alongside your child, celebrate discovery, and help make practice a positive experience for your family.
Our free videos, growing resource library, and community offer a place to begin—even if no one in your family has entered a martial arts school.
The foundation of our family learning
Life is martial arts.
Martial arts is life.
This guiding philosophy from my book, Living Strong Through Martial Arts: A Lifetime Journey of Martial Virtue, connects our practice with how we live, respond, and care for one another.
For families, that connection comes alive in ordinary moments: waiting patiently, listening with attention, taking responsibility, responding to frustration, and offering kindness after a mistake.
Our teaching is anchored in Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan and enriched by my experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Modern Arnis. The shared purpose is human development through lifelong learning.
Our example is part of the lesson
Begin with the grown-up.
Before we help a child manage excitement, frustration, or disappointment, we can notice our own response. A breath, a calmer voice, and one clear direction can help us guide the next moment more thoughtfully.
We are practicing too. When we lose patience, we can take responsibility, reconnect, and begin again. Children get to see that learning continues throughout life.
Pause and notice
Consider what is happening for you and your child. Are they excited, tired, confused, or ready for a different approach?
Guide with clarity
Offer one manageable direction. Demonstrate when helpful and allow time for your child to understand and respond.
Make room for connection
Listen, acknowledge their experience, and help them feel seen, heard, appreciated, and valued as they learn.
Bring the adventure home
Small moments can become meaningful practice.
Watch something together
Choose a short video or part of a lesson. Pause to ask what your child noticed or would like to explore.
Choose one activity
Follow the lesson’s guidance. Keep practice manageable and adapt to your child’s age, attention, experience, and physical attributes.
Notice their contribution
Recognize something specific: listening to a direction, asking for help, practicing patiently, or showing care for someone.
Connect it to daily life
Look for the same quality during play, schoolwork, family routines, or time with others. Let the learning travel with you.
Your free learning resources
A place to learn. A community to learn with.
YouTube hosts our videos and livestreams. The Living Strong Family Martial Arts Facebook group brings the conversations and resources together.
As the library grows, we will share videos, PDFs, printables, games, and activities that families can explore at home. The group is also a place to ask questions and connect with Peter, other families, and LSFMA instructors.
Your questions help us understand what would be useful next. Share what you are learning and where your family could use guidance.
Younger children can use these resources with a parent or caregiver. For community discussions, protect your child’s privacy and keep personal details you would not want shared off the group.

Supervise children’s movement activities and provide clear space. Partner work, submissions, and weapon techniques require appropriate in-person instruction and supervision.
From one grown-up to another
We are part of the adventure too.
I’m Peter Liciaga—a father, grandfather, lifelong martial artist, and educator. After almost thirty years of teaching full-time, I continue to learn from children and the people who care for them.
Being a grandfather gives familiar lessons new meaning. I get to practice patience, adjust my expectations, and discover how to meet a young learner in the moment.
That is the spirit behind this community and my book. We grow through everyday opportunities to become more aware, compassionate, responsible, and skillful at being human.
I look forward to learning alongside your family.
