Your journey as a martial artist starts here.

Live Strong Through Martial Arts

Becoming a martial artist begins with learning to move with awareness, meet challenges with patience, and carry respect and courage into everyday life.

Guided by the philosophy in Peter Liciaga’s book, Living Strong Through Martial Arts: A Lifetime Journey of Martial Virtue, this learning community explores how martial arts can help us become more thoughtful, compassionate, and skillful human beings.

Whether you are taking your first step or continuing years of training, you are welcome here. Begin where you are, with what you have, and give your best.

The foundation of our learning

Life is martial arts.
Martial arts is life.

This is the guiding philosophy of Living Strong Through Martial Arts: A Lifetime Journey of Martial Virtue and the heart of One World Martial Arts Dojo.

The book explores everyday human development through the lens of martial arts. The lessons reach into our relationships, our responsibilities, our challenges, and the choices we make when life asks something of us.

Here, we bring that philosophy into practice through movement, reflection, conversation, and useful actions you can carry into your day.

Martial virtue in everyday life

Becoming a martial artist is a way of living.

When we practice a movement, we also have an opportunity to practice patience. When we work with someone, we practice care and responsibility. When we make a mistake, we practice the courage to learn and begin again.

These qualities matter at home, at school, at work, and in our communities. Your journey as a martial artist grows through the way you live as well as the way you train.

Awareness and thoughtful action

Notice what is happening within and around you. Assess the moment and choose an appropriate response.

Compassion and responsibility

Consider how your actions affect others. Practice respect and help people feel seen, heard, appreciated, and valued.

Courage and lifelong learning

Stay curious, ask questions, and give your best. Let each experience teach you something you can bring into the next.

Your first steps

Learn a principle. Bring it into your life.

Choose a lesson

Explore the YouTube playlist. Begin with a topic that interests you and notice the principle behind the teaching.

Practice with awareness

Give yourself time to understand. Follow the lesson’s guidance and choose practice appropriate to your experience, surroundings, and physical attributes today.

Apply it beyond the lesson

Find one opportunity to use what you learned. A patient response, a thoughtful decision, or an act of kindness can become today’s practice.

Reflect and connect

What did you notice? What helped? What questions remain? Share your experience and learn alongside others in the community.

Experience shared with purpose

Three martial arts. A shared purpose of growth.

My teaching draws on more than five decades of martial arts training and almost thirty years of teaching full-time. These three arts have shaped my practice and the experiences I share through my book and lessons.

Tang Soo Do Moo Duk Kwan

The foundation of my teaching: martial virtue, respect, thoughtful movement, and the lifelong development of character.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

A continuing study of patience, adaptability, problem-solving, humility, and learning through cooperation with others.

Modern Arnis

An exploration of coordination, flow, awareness, and responding thoughtfully as circumstances change.

A message from Peter

There is always more to learn—and more to give.

I am still a student. Every season of life brings something new to understand about movement, people, patience, and myself.

That is the spirit I want to share here. You bring your own experiences, questions, and possibilities. Together, we can keep becoming more aware, more compassionate, and more skillful at being human.

Life is martial arts, and martial arts is life.

— Peter Liciaga
