From Words to Rhythm: How Living Strong Became a Soundtrack

Behind the Scenes of the Living Strong Music Project – Entry #1

When I started writing Living Strong: The Power of Defining Moments, I didn’t plan on making music. I set out to tell stories. Real stories. Raw stories. Moments that defined my life and shaped my spirit. But something unexpected happened as the words poured out—certain lines felt like they had a beat under them. Certain reflections had a rhythm. And somewhere between the paragraphs and the punctuation… I heard a pulse.

And that’s when it hit me.

These weren’t just stories to be read.
They were meant to be felt.
To be moved to.
To be moved by.

I realized: Living Strong isn’t just a philosophy.
It’s a vibe.
And like any good vibe, it needed a soundtrack.

So I took the leap.
I reached out.
I collaborated.
I created.

And that’s how the Living Strong Music Project was born.

🔥 It Started with a Spark

The first track I wrote is called “Ignite the Night.” I call it the Living Strong Anthem because it captures the emotional voltage I felt during the most pivotal seasons of my life. It’s not about fame, flash, or fantasy. It’s about the kind of fire that comes from standing up after you’ve been knocked down, again and again—and choosing to rise stronger, louder, and more alive than ever.

The lyrics were inspired directly from passages in the book. But the sound…
The sound came from my life—and from my ears.

🎶 My Influences: A Lifetime of Sound

Music has always been a part of my evolution. Growing up in the Bronx, I soaked up everything. My ears and feet were fed by Latin musicmerengue, salsa, and the Latin hustle—sounds that filled the streets, family parties, and dance floors. That’s where I first fell in love with movement. That’s what pulled me toward dance. Those rhythms—so alive, so joyful, so powerful—were my gateway into the world of professional dance.

From Latin rhythm came disco, and from disco came the dream:
To become a dancer.

Disco lights. Hustle battles. Body rolls and spins.
I lived for it.

That hunger took me to classical ballet, and eventually into the world of musical theater dance, which changed my life. I learned discipline. Form. Artistry. But I never forgot the Bronx or the boombox.

I was just as much a student of Public Enemy and KRS-One as I was of Balanchine and Jerome Robbins.

I’d play Tom Jones and Journey while training, belt out musical theater ballads, then blast Led Zeppelin on a walk home.

And for a while, when I was living in Florida, I had a good friend named Mike. He had a great voice. We’d be driving to construction job sites, windows down, heat rising—and he’d sing along to Sha Na Na tracks like we were starring in our own doo-wop concert on the highway. We weren’t trying to impress anyone. We were just alive, surviving, and singing.

That season stayed with me.

And even now, I’m still inspired by the bold truth-telling of artists like Eminem and Kendrick Lamar—modern poets with grit and soul.

But when I sat with Living Strong in front of me…
When I really felt what the book wanted to say…

What came from my spirit wasn’t soft rock or ballet music.
It was gritty.
It was spoken word.
It was the sound of streets and scars and survival.
It was hip hop.

That surprised even me.

But then again, Living Strong has always been about revealing what’s already within you.

🎤 The Living Strong Project: More Than Music

All tracks are being produced under the creative vision of the Living Strong Project—the same name that powers my book, my community work, my youth programs, and my martial arts mission. The lyrics are mine—written from lived experience, voice, and scars. The production? A talented team I’ve commissioned to bring those words to life. The sound? A blend of everything I’ve lived through and vibed to.

You’ll hear:

  • The heat of Latin dance floors
  • The edge of Bronx street corners
  • The soul of Broadway lights
  • The pulse of hip hop truth
  • The class and chaos of a life fully lived

💥 What’s Next?

“Ignite the Night” is just the beginning.

Each track to come will reflect a defining moment—sometimes spoken with fire, sometimes whispered with resolve, always rooted in strength. These songs are meant to be felt in your chest, heard in your bones, and lived in your everyday walk.

So if you’re out there trying to rise from your own defining moments, know this:

The words are here.
The rhythm is rising.
And the beat is yours to move to.

Let’s light it up.

Live Strong,
—Peter
