January 2025: A Month of Purpose, Power, and Progress

As January 2025 comes to a close, I take a moment to reflect on this first chapter of the year—a month that has tested my resolve, deepened my purpose, and set the foundation for the journey ahead. It has been a month of movement, both physically and mentally, as I return to the mats, embrace my recovery, and recommit to my mission of Living Strong.

A Return to the Mats

The highlight of this month has undoubtedly been stepping back onto the mats. After a decade of navigating pain and two hip replacements, January 11th marked my official return to teaching and training. It wasn’t just about movement—it was about reclaiming a part of myself that I had been forced to set aside for too long. With each class, each technique, and each lesson shared, I felt my connection to martial arts deepen.

This return wasn’t just for me—it was a call to action for others. I extended an invitation to adults, parents, and grandparents to step onto the mats with me, offering 30 days of free training. The response has been inspiring. Seeing individuals who once believed ‘it’s too late’ step forward, train, and rediscover their own strength has been a powerful reminder that our limits are often self-imposed.

Lessons from the Journey

This month, I’ve revisited the fundamental principles that shape both my martial arts philosophy and my approach to life: Base, Connection, and Structure. My article on ‘Base: The Foundation of Strength in Martial Arts and Life’ kicked off the 2025 Martial Arts Living Strong Blueprint, setting the stage for the lessons to come.

I’ve also reconnected with the wisdom of my past teachers and experiences. Writing about Arndt Mallepree’s journey and reflecting on the legacy of Rickson Gracie reinforced the value of resilience, adaptability, and the never-ending pursuit of refinement.

Looking Ahead: February’s Challenge

With January behind me, the road ahead is clear: continue to build, refine, and inspire. February will be about deepening my physical conditioning, expanding my teaching, and solidifying the foundational lessons I want to pass on to those stepping onto the mats with me. More solo lesson videos, more insights into self-defense/protection combatives, and a continued exploration of the 100+ principles in my martial arts philosophy will guide my next steps, especially the concept of ‘Total Control.’

One of the most fulfilling aspects of this month has been witnessing the impact of shared strength. The Family Board Break Event on January 1st was more than a powerful way to start the year—it was a testament to the importance of leadership by example. Parents stepped up, showed courage, and demonstrated to their children that breaking through obstacles, both physical and mental, is possible at any stage of life.

Beyond the dojo, my commitment to sharing my journey publicly has created deeper connections within my community. Whether through my blog posts, social media, or personal conversations, I’ve embraced transparency—not just about my progress but about the struggles and victories that come with it.

In February, I will also start teaching a 12pm noon-time class on Wednesdays. To my community, I would like to invite you to join me and train for free on Wednesdays at 12pm. Just text Peter at 856-278-5282.

Additionally, I will be sharing more about my personal approach—being a martial artist first, a teacher second, and a professional third. This mindset shift is something I’ve explored deeply in my most recent article, and it will shape how I teach, train, and engage with my students and peers moving forward.

The journey is far from over, but one truth remains: You’re never too old, broken, bruised, or beat—AND it’s never too late to pursue a dream.

Here’s to the next step. Here’s to Living Strong.
