Building Resilience in Our Students for Back-to-School Success: A Living Strong Approach

By Peter Liciaga, Master Instructor and Enrollment Director at Dinoto Karate, and Author of “Living A Strong Life

As summer fades and the new school year approaches, it’s crucial to prepare our children not just academically, but emotionally and mentally as well. At Dinoto Karate, we’re committed to equipping our students with a life skill that is central to my “Living Strong” philosophy: resilience.

What is Resilience?

Resilience is the ability to adapt and bounce back when things don’t go as planned. It’s the grit and determination that help you get up when you’re knocked down, whether it’s in karate, in school, or in life. Resilience is not just about recovering from setbacks; it’s about growing stronger through them. This aligns perfectly with the “Living Strong” principles I discuss in my book, “Living A Strong Life.”

Living Strong Concepts and Resilience

The “Living Strong” philosophy emphasizes the importance of balance, focus, and inner strength. These concepts are integral to building resilience:

  • Balance: Learning to maintain equilibrium in life helps children adapt to new situations, a key aspect of resilience.
  • Focus: A focused mind can navigate challenges more effectively, turning setbacks into comebacks.
  • Inner Strength: This is the core of resilience. It’s the inner fortitude that helps you face difficulties and emerge stronger.

How Dinoto Karate is Teaching Resilience

Under the guidance of Master Magill and our dedicated Leadership Team, we’ve integrated resilience training into our karate curriculum. Through specialized drills, mindfulness techniques, and open discussions, we’re providing our students with the tools they need to navigate life’s challenges. We’re teaching them to turn setbacks into comebacks and to view obstacles as opportunities for growth.
